QIT's Mine a Lake Allard and Lake Tio Smelter at Sorel

QIT - Fer et Titane Inc. (QIT)
Lake Allard and Lake Tio are home to QIT's mining operations. Located on the St. Lawrence River's North Shore, 40 km north of Havre St-Pierre, Quebec, these sites contain the world's largest deposits of ilmenite ore, an almost inexhaustible supply of raw material. The ore is crushed on-site and shipped to the QIT complex in Sorel, Quebec. Here it is mixed with high quality coal, and smelted in electric arc furnaces to produce Sorelmetal®, a premium quality iron, and titanium dioxide rich slag known as Sorelslag.®

Mining Pond with Dredge and Mineral Separation Plant at Richards Bay Smelter at Richards Bay

Richards Bay Minerals (RBM)
The RBM operations are located near the port of Richards Bay on the Indian Ocean coastline in Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The heavy mineral sand deposits are extracted and the ilmenite is sent 20 km inland to the smelting operations where Sorelmetal® and Sorelslag® are produced using the same processes as QIT.
